Cox Communications Sucks!
I moved into my place 3 months ago. I got my last bill from Cox and it was astronomically high. I began to look through it and I noticed charges for a number of things that I didn't request. First, I had a $7.00 subscription to Cox's monthly magazine. I also had a subscription to STARZ movie package which I did not ask for. When I called Cox and asked them to remove these items from my bill they said they couldn't because I subscribed to these services and I had received them. I informed them that I didn't subscribe. The responded that I was informed that these services were free the first month and that I would be charged thereafter. I can say that I was not informed. I have never subscribed to a first month free service from any company in my life.
In addition to be fraudulently charged for services that I did not request their service is horrible. I have already had 3 dual tuner HD DVR set top boxes in 3 months. Each time the box breaks they send out a service technician which means I have to be home. Getting them to refund the time period in which the service did not work is nearly impossible. You literally have to keep a log and call multiple times. You need to inform them once the service interruption begins and then call again once the service is repaired to get the credit. They are likely betting that you don't want to wait through the 30 minute wait multiple times to get your money back.
Three weeks ago my digital phone service went out. They did their series of checks and then called me back saying that a technician is scheduled to look at the system in person. I went ahead and scheduled the appointment. When the next bill came there was a charge for the visit. I could not believe it. They instruct you that a technician must come to visual inspect the system but fail to mention there is a charge.
Even after getting my third DVR box I had to call Cox twice to get it reset and correctly download the channel guide. As a side note I would like to add that the interface of the Cox digital cable is awful. Other carriers (e.g. comcast, adelphia) have a much better interface. I mean, I am not expecting TiVo but it could be a lot better. I won't even begin to mention the broadband throttling that occurs when I am downloading big files. These guys are truly horrible! The only thing good I can say is that the internet service has never gone out. But that is not the case for the cable.
I believe that we, as consumers, need to do something to thwart the monopoly that cable companies have over their territories. I know that I have the option to pursue satellite services but I should be able to obtain land line service from any company that I choose. Well, I am off to look at the offerings of DishNetwork and Direct TV any suggestions?

Internet.
I got a DVR through them so I would be able to record my shows. I set
the DVR to record my shows, it didn't record them 80% of the time, I
would check to see if they were set to record before they came on and
they were set. So, the DVR is crap, I wouldn't recommend getting this
service.
I canceled the TV through them today and I ordered Dish Network which
is saving me $45.00 a month. Dish Network also doesn't have
promotional fees like Cox Cable does. You pay one flat rate.
Also the Phone hooks up through the Internet Modem. They told me that
I would have to pay $50.00 to purchase a new modem through them when
I've only had the other one for a month.
With the Phone Service, I don't like the Voice Mail feature. Lots of
people do but I'm one of the ones that don't. I asked them when I
signed up with them if I could have the Voice Mail feature turned off.
The person who sold it to me said: "Yes." Then 3 days later, I have
voice mail messages. I called up Cox to have them shut off the Voice
Mail and they told me that I had to keep the Voice Mail feature turned
on in order to keep my Long Distance plan. I told the girl I was
speaking to that I was told that I was told that I didn't have to keep
the Voice Mail turned on and she hung up on me!
Customer Service: I give a rating of ZERO.
Cox Cable Sucks Do yourself a favor and get your phone through Embarq,
TV through Dish Network and you can even get your internet through
Embarq and they offer a bundle price that DOESN'T change later down
the line.
Some other company needs to come here that offers really good high
speed internet so that Cox can get out!
I'm in: Las Vegas / NV
